The Maple Hill Community Congregational Church is a fellowship of approximately 120 believers in Jesus Christ that worships in Maple Hill, Kansas. Our church is of the Congregational tradition, going back to the pilgrims and the Puritans, and is a member of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches.

The following principles are expressive of our faith, and are written in the church constitution:

  1. The Holy Bible is our only rule of faith and practice.
  2. The Lord Jesus is the only head of our church and our only Savior.
  3. Christian is a sufficient name for Christ's followers.
  4. Christian character of life is the only test of fellowship.
  5. Individual interpretation is the right and privilege of all Christians.
  6. We seek the unity of all followers of Christ, so that we may all be one as Jesus prayed.

The church has maintained a witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ in our community and area since its founding 1875. To date we have enjoyed 131 years of ministry in worship, Sunday school, Bible Studies, outreach, prayer, and fellowship. Our first building was constructed in 1882, just west of the present town site. The Old Stone church, as it is presently known, is used today as a chapel for funerals, weddings, and special services. Worship is held there annually on the Sunday preceding Memorial Day. The present facility, located in town at 104 East 4th Street, was dedicated in 1905. We worship there every Sunday morning at 10:30 am, and also at 8:00 a.m. on every Sunday except the first one of the month.

The Pastor of the Maple Hill Church is Andrew McHenry. He is a graduate of The University of Kansas and Saint Paul School of Theology, and has a background as pastor and youth pastor in churches of various affiliations (Congregational Christian, Independent Bible, United Methodist, Disciples of Christ), with additional experience in hospital and prison chaplaincy. He is a native of nearby Topeka, KS, being the fifth generation of his family to graduate from Topeka High School. He presently lives in Maple Hill and is a 36-year old bachelor. He describes himself as "evangelical, but not fundamental." His preaching is very Bible-based, his theological influences include Augustine, Thomas a Kempis, Jacobus Arminius, John Wesley, William Booth, Charles Finney, Charles Sheldon, C.S. Lewis, Ron Sider, Thomas Oden, and Clark Pinnock, as well as others.

McHenry says, "This church is like a big family. We are closely connected to the community, ministering to a wide range of people in Wabaunsee, Pottawatomie, and Shawnee counties. Our message is strongly Bible-based; the congregation has historically emphasized that the Lord Jesus is the only head of our church and our only Savior. Members love and care for one another deeply, and newcomers are quickly welcomed into the fold. It is a great blessing to serve here."

The Maple Hill Church has a great strength in its children's ministries. In addition to children's Sunday school, the church conducts a weekly kids ministry (called Kids of the Kingdom), and special programs around Easter, Christmas and Vacation Bible School. The Maple Hill Church also has specialized ministries and/or Bible studies for women, seniors and youth. There is something for everybody.
