A Story of One of
the Best Known Individuals in Our World
A young man from a
wealthy family went to college to major in business management
and engineering. He was tall, shy and very respectful of others.
He developed a friendship with one of his professors and it
completely changed his life. The articulate professor’s lectures
and example of discipline, self-denial, and devotion to his
faith transformed this quiet student. This professor galvanized
his life by radically changing his worldview, his direction and
his ambitions; he finally found a purpose in life.
The year was 1974. The university was the Jedda Abdul-Aziz
Univesity in Saudi Arabia. The professor was Palestinian-born
Islamic scholar Abdallah Azzam. And the student was Osama bin
Laden.
This account of Osama bin Laden has made us on the 40-Days of
Purpose Campaign team do some thinking about some key questions:
* Do I have a purpose in life?
* Do I have a purpose-driven life?
* Am I just kind of floating or drifting thru life wondering
what I am really here for?
Who has had more influence on our world of today than the man we
have all heard of – Osama bin Laden? If his twisted evil answer
to the question “What on earth am I here for?” could bring about
such evil and destruction, what a difference it could make if we
and thousands of others could get excited about God’s answer to
“What on earth am I here for?”
The 40 Days of Purpose we are having in our church (September 25
to November 7) will give us 40 Days of searching the scripture
together to find God’s answer to “What on earth am I here for?”
We are excited about the difference it is going to make for us
and our church. We are asking you to plan your schedule to get
in on the blessing and excitement of those 40 Days of Purpose.
