DALTON DECLARED WINNER AFTER CONTROVERSIAL RECOUNT

After careful deliberations and recounts, Dalton Whitwam was declared the top youth group attendance winner for the 2007-08 school year. Tabulations were kept by Andrew on Microsoft Excel. The win entitles Dalton to his choice of CDs from the youth group collection.

The winner for the two previous years was Kelsey Curran. Dalton replaces her as the attendance champion. And remember, things start anew with the 2008-09 school year! Top attendees for 2007-08 were…

1) Dalton Whitwam – 34            4) Kelsey Curran – 27  (tie)       7) Nick Johnson – 19        10) Jordan Haya – 14

2) Bill Ledeboer – 33                 4) Beth Ledeboer – 27               8) Chelsea Degan – 17

3) Randi Tappan – 32                6) Caitlin Curran – 26                9) Taylor Falk – 15

“FRESHMORES” ENTERTAIN AT YOUTH LOCK-IN

Musicians Bill Ledeboer and Jeff Zeckser dazzled energetic fans and others alike at the recent youth group lock-in, playing two songs – an original song and a cover by Green Day.

Bill is a youth group veteran who plays guitar, does the vocals, and has a ton of stage personality. Jeff is the master bass player – taking his licks from Les Claypool and Victor Wooten. He has joined the youth group recently for the lock-in and the spring Acquire the Fire trip.

At the concert, Kelsey Schimmel won a free T-shirt with the band’s former name on it: the Gee Gnomes. The band’s name was changed just before show time.

LOCK-IN SCAVENGER HUNT WINNERS

The official winner of the scavenger hunt was the team consisting of Caitlin & Kelsey Curran, Beth Ledeboer, and Shelby Cooper, with Warren Fordham as the team driver. Competitors zipped through town pursing items ranging from carrots to wedding dresses, as well as a picture with Jim Puff. Lots of interesting things were picked up along the way, and in the end it was close.

NEW YOUTH GROUP LEADERSHIP FOR 2008-09

With Pastor Andrew moving to Emporia, does that mean that the youth group will stop? No way! A secret meeting was held in an undisclosed location, and the following roles were developed for youth ministry leadership in 2008-09…                                Warren Fordham – Director of Fun

Sue Chaney – Director of Christian Learning

Boffo the Gorilla – Disciplinary Administrator

Andrew thanks these folks and everyone for their support of the youth ministry program at the Maple Hill Church. It’s been a blast. Praise the Lord for all the good things that’ve happened in the last few years.

NEW INCOMING 7th GRADERS FOR 2008-09…

will include Gentry Gideon, Halen Hier, Zach Haya, Aaron Mayer, Jordan Degan, and Brandon Justice – and hopefully a few others. It’ll be great to have them on board. Who needs Andrew when you have a crew like that?

It was also good to have Chris Hadsall, Kelsey Schimmel, and Shelby Cooper at the lock-in with us.

The newcomers of year would have to be the Kershaws – Hunter and Brittany. Hunter was the winner of the youth beauty contest back several months ago, largely because of the beautifying help from Kelsey Curran.

CLOSING WISDOM … Remember these thoughts from Pastor Andrew:

1.       Take care of your body. It’s a temple. Don’t smoke or use drugs or drink in excess.

2.       See your life in the big picture. Think of things in terms of eternity.

3.       Pray before you make any big decisions.

4.       Be willing to do anything, ANYTHING, that the Lord would have you do.

5.       Never be afraid to say or do the right thing. It’s a blessing to suffer or be criticized for doing the right thing.

6.       You never know what can happen. It’s a crazy and unpredictable world.

7.       Whatever does happen, God’s in control. Everything will be all right in the end.
